Alumni Update

Alvin L. Schultz 20th Anniversary Visiting Professorship Event

To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Alvin L. Schultz Visiting Professorship at Hennepin County Medical Center, the Department of Medicine hosted an evening event for current faculty, residents, alumni and special guests on September 25, 2008. The event was held at the new downtown Minneapolis Central Library with a social hour and a program featuring comments from Dr. Lonnie Bristow, Past President of the American Medical Association, and the 20th Alvin L. Schultz Visiting Professor, an address by Dr. Scott Davies, Chief of Medicine, entitled, “The Importance of Chronic Disease management and Reducing Health Disparities” and a residency update by Dr. Anne Pereira, Internal Medicine Residency Program Director.

A selection of resident posters was on display highlighting some of the scholarly activities that have been supported by the Alvin L. Schultz Education and Research Fund. The posters included, The Weight of Pharmaceutical Advertising, by Drs. David Newman and William Newman; Persistent Enteritis as the Defining Manifestation of Lupus, by Drs. Manuel Berzosa and Jeffrey Albrecht; Insulinomas and Endoscopic Ultrasound, by Drs. Jose Vega-Peralta, Steven Debol and Shawn Mallery; Acute Pulmonary Embolism Associated with Right Ventricular Dysfunction: Experience of an Urban Teaching Hospital, by Drs. Andrew Wilson, Toni Mowbray-Donahue, James Leatherman, and Mark Sprenkle; and Oriental Cholangiohepatitis, Sump Syndrome and Cholangiocarcinoma in a South East Asian Immigrant, by Dr. Anjali Dahiya.

Alumni in attendance at this event included Drs. Joseph Cardamone, Rob Colbert, John Crosson, Morris Davidman, Deborah Fletcher, Paul Geary, Stuart Hanson, Lois Heaney, Mary Miley, Tim Miley, John Opsahl, Thomas Russ, Brian Rank, Rajiv Shah, Andrew Vaaler, Neil Hoffman, Rosemary Quirk and others. It was great to connect with these alumni and former members of the Department of Medicine.

Thank you to all who supported the Alvin L. Schultz Education and Research Fund with your donations through this event. We raised over $6,000 for our Program.

Sincerely,
