Rheumatology -- (612) 873-2704

Physicians in the Division of Rheumatology provide diagnosis and management of patients with arthritis or any other rheumatic or autoimmune disorder. Outpatient rheumatology clinics offer evaluation of new patients and follow-up treatment of patients with established disease. Faculty members also provide consultation for inpatients with primary rheumatic disease and also for patients with rheumatologic manifestations of other systemic disorders.

The division welcomes referrals in the following area:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Polymyalgia rheumatica
  • Bursitis, tendinitis, and other regional disorders
  • Gout and other crystalline arthritis
  • Spondyloarthritis
  • Infectious arthritis
  • Lyme disease
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus and other autoimmune diseases
  • Anti-phospholipid syndrome
  • Vasculitis

Advanced treatment procedures include:

  • Joint aspiration and synovial fluid analysis
  • State-of-the-art laboratory, medical imaging, and rehabilitation services
  • Arthritis/Orthopaedic Specialty Center
  • Administration of biologic response modifier agents (e.g., TNF antibody)

The Division welcomes the opportunity to co-manage the therapy of autoimmune diseases of other organ systems with the corresponding subspecialists, e.g., uveitis (ophthalmology), polychondritis (otolaryngology), etc.† We would undertake such co-management with the expectation of close ongoing communication between rheumatology and the referring subspecialist.
