The goal of the last year of EM/IM training is to aid in the transition from resident to staff in both specialties.  The two G5 residents will serve as chief residents for the combined program and be responsible for the final schedule, assisting in program administration and recruiting, and coordinating EM/IM conferences and didactics.  The clinical time this year includes 5-6 additional months as EM pit bosses as well as a fifth month in the MICU (this time, as in the G3 year, on night float).  G5s will have the opportunity to go to Methodist Hospital (a private, community hospital in St. Louis Park, just NW of downtown) and function as a hospitalist or intensivist, depending on your interest.  Like the G4 year, this year has two selective months which are scheduled back-to-back to facilitate an experience abroad or extended time for an academic project.
