The clinical urinalysis course at HCMC consists of one week of practical
clinical experience supplemented with a workshop.
Students will be directly involved in the daily procedures in the urinalysis
laboratory. Due to our large outpatient clinics and emergency room, you
will see a large volume of clinically significant urinalysis results.
Upon entering the clinical rotation, we ask that students come to us with
specific pre-clinical competencies. These competencies will be the base
on which we will build the knowledge needed to attain career-entry competence
through practical experience.
To review this basic material that will be assumed knowledge upon arrival
at HCMC, please complete the following assignment using the required textbook.
(Strasinger, SK. Urinalysis and Body Fluids, 5th ed., Philadelphia, FA
Davis, 2008.)
- Read the assigned chapters listed and write out answers
(preferably typed) to each of the assigned learning objectives found
on the first pages of each chapter.
- Test your knowledge with the study questions at
the end of each chapter. Answers are provided in back of the book. (You
are not required to write out answers to the study questions.)
- Turn in your written learning objective answers on
the first day of orientation. They will be evaluated for completeness
and will be returned to you to reference during the Urinalysis course and for
future exams.
- Bring your text with you during your
Urinalysis course at HCMC.
