County Medical Center's Cytogenetics Laboratory is a full service laboratory
offering high quality chromosomal analyses on amniotic fluid, peripheral blood, bone marrow, lymph nodes, skin biopsies, malignant
tissues and products of conception. Molecular cytogenetic analyses, by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), is offered for aneuploidy detection,
microdeletion syndromes, marker chromosome identification, translocation
detection, subtelomeres, Her2/neu, and mosaicism screens. The laboratory also cultures fibroblasts
and amniocytes for send-out testing.HCMC's Cytogenetics Laboratory is the only cytogenetics laboratory in the Midwest to be staffed by two MD, PhD, board-certified Pathologists who are CLIA qualified to direct a cytogenetics laboratory. Our laboratory is staffed by highly skilled cytogenetic technologists who are certified as Clinical Laboratory Specialists in Cytogenetics by the National Credentialing Agency for Medical Laboratory Personnel, Inc. The Cytogenetics Laboratory offers high quality studies with extremely fast turnaround times and very competitive prices. Our chromosomal and FISH analyses meet or surpass the College of American Pathologists (CAP) requirements for cytogenetic laboratories. The Cytogenetics Laboratory is staffed from 7:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, and if needed at all other times. Specimens may be sent at any time. HCMC provides a complimentary courier service for our clients within the Twin Cities seven county area and can arrange alternative transport services for clients outside that area.
