Atlas
of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology:
This site provides a large database of information
on genes involved in cancer, cytogenetic abnormalities in cancer, clinical
types of cancer, and cancer-prone diseases. It is easy to search by chromosomal
rearrangement, gene name or cancer type.

GeneCards
This site provides an extensive database of human
genes, human gene products and their involvement in diseases. The database
Cards are presented in a concise and well-organized manner and contain
numerous links to other genetic databases. The search engine is easy to
use and it can search the database by gene symbol or key words.

GeneClinics
This site provides clinical genetic information
on many inherited disorders, as well as information on the use of genetic
testing in the diagnosis, management and genetic counseling of patients
with these disorders. Each disease entity is well referenced and contains
links to other genetic databases including GeneTests (see below).
GeneTests
This site provides a database of laboratories that
offer molecular testing for inherited genetic disorders. The search engine
is easy to use and identifies laboratories offering testing for a specific
disorder; the laboratory listings include methodology and contact information.
The site also contains a database of genetic clinics and prenatal diagnosis
clinics that is searchable by state, population served, and specialty.
An introduction to genetic counseling, testing concepts, and testing terms
is also provided. This site requires a password; registration is easy
and free.

Human Genome Project Information
This site provides information on all aspects of
the Human Genome Project. Some areas covered include project information,
project updates, genome research, educational resources, genetics and
medicine, and information regarding the ethical, legal and social issues
arising from the project.

Mitelman Database of Chromosome Aberrations in Cancer
This site provides an extensive database on
chromosomal abnormalities in cancer. Several different search engines
can be used to search the database for cytogenetic abnormalities, tumor
types, patient characteristics, or gene names. I strongly recommend using
the Recurrent Aberrations hotlink (on the left of the home page) if you
are new to the site or if you want to search only for recurring chromosomal
abnormalities. This search engine contains all pull down menus that are
very easy to use. The other search engines are a little more complicated
and will take time to learn. Information on how to use each of the other
search engines is available at the bottom of each search page.

Online
Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM)
This site provides an extensive database of
human genes and genetic disorders. It provides information on clinical,
genetic, biochemical, molecular, and current research aspects of genetic
diseases. A clinical synopsis is available for each genetic disorder.
Each disease description is well referenced and contains numerous links
to other databases.
