Poison centers help seniors and people of all ages when they take too much or the wrong medicine. Poison Centers give advice about preventing and treating chemical exposures on the job.

You do not need to have an exposure to call a poison center with a question. The Hennepin Regional Poison Center/ Minnesota Poison Control System (MPCS) is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-222-1222 and all calls are free of charge and confidential.

The phones are answered by pharmacists who are specially certified and trained in poison information. This is a national phone number that can be used anywhere in the USA to connect you directly to the poison center taking care of the area from which you are calling.

In 2008, the Hennepin Regional Poison Center and MPCS received 127,655 calls/contacts from Minnesota residents asking for advice on exposures to prescription and non prescription medications, drug abuse, household cleaners and chemicals, plants and mushrooms, gases, bites and stings, industrial and farm chemicals, pesticides, food poisoning and many other things.

The MPCS can provide material and information to help teach about poison prevention, first aid, accessing the poison center and much more!
