Our Story
Over the past several decades, the state of Minnesota, and more particularly Minneapolis and St. Paul, has become home to many new immigrants and refugees. This has broadened the cultural diversity of the metropolitan area.

This diversity is stimulating local institutions as they strive to meet and satisfy the needs of this changing and culturally diverse population base. Without a doubt, the increasing number of limited English-speaking patients has challenged health care providers.

Providers now encounter an added component to their practice: the cultural, social/emotional and community needs of patients. To respond to the language needs of these communities and bridge the communication and cultural barriers in the health care setting, HCMC developed a centralized and effective onsite (and after-hours) interpretation services system, employing more than 50 interpreters in 20 different languages.
