Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCPs) work under the
direction of a physician to provide care and education to patients who
have breathing problems. RCPs may care for patients with asthma, pneumonia,
emphysema, or bronchitis. They may also care for infants who have been
born prematurely or patients who have had surgery or experienced trauma
and are having difficulty breathing. RCPs may use various life support
equipment, monitoring devices, and oxygen and medication delivery systems
to help patients breathe more easily.
