What Is Asthma?

  • Asthma is a common lung disease.
  • In Minnesota, about 1 in 10 people have asthma.
  • It can cause missed school or work.
  • It can be scary.
  • It is rare, but people can die from asthma.
  • Asthma can’t be cured, but it can be managed.

You can learn to manage your asthma. When your asthma is in good control:

  • You are free of asthma symptoms.
  • You can be active in school, work or play.
  • You will sleep through the night.
  • You can avoid having to go to the emergency room or hospital because of asthma.

We are your partners in your asthma care.

Get an asthma check up every 6 months, even if your asthma is well controlled. And please, feel free to call your clinic if you have questions or concerns about your asthma between asthma check ups.
