Joint Replacement Class
Easing Minds and Healing Bodies
As part of the rehabilitation process at Hennepin County Medical Center, patients are expected to attend pre-operative education prior to undergoing Total Joint Replacement surgery The class provides valuable education to the patient and their family member or support person so they understand what will be happening and can make plans for what they’ll need after they go home from the hospital. The instructors explain the process and encourage the patients to talk about their fears and expectations to make the joint replacement experience as comfortable as possible.
A Team Effort
During the class, the patient will receive information from several HCMC departments, including Care Management, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Pre-Admission Testing. The presentation is easy to follow, and all patients receive a booklet and DVD. Patients are encouraged to bring a family member or friend who will be with you during the recovery period. You are not required to bring someone, but we strongly encourage it. This support person will be able to reinforce teachings and precautions as well as help you as you recover.
This is a one-time class offered the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 10-11:30 am in the Parkside Professional Center, Suite 506. Interpreters are available but must be arranged in advance.
Class registration is coordinated through the patient's surgeon when scheduling the surgery.
