Pediatric Brain Injury
Program The Pediatric
Brain Injury Program (PBIP) is designed to meet the needs of children and adolescents
with traumatic and other acquired brain injuries, many of whom have been
treated at HCMC's Level 1 Trauma Center. HCMC provides a full range of The goals of the
PBIP program are to help each child overcome physical, cognitive and emotional
challenges to reach his/her maximum potential and to provide family education
and support. Children with brain injuries have needs that can be very different from those of adults with brain injuries. We evaluate and treat children from birth to 18 years with all degrees of acquired brain injury. Most of these children have experienced a mild to moderate brain injury. Many of these children may benefit from short-term inpatient rehabilitation at HCMC. Children with severe brain injury may need more intensive and prolonged inpatient rehabilitation. Once their medical condition is stable, many of these children may be transferred to another facility, such as Knapp Rehabilitation
