Trauma Prevention Program Coordinator

Julie Philbrook, RN, MA has been a registered nurse at Hennepin County Medical Center for more the 24 years. She has a master’s degree in Leadership from Augsburg College and has worked in the field of Trauma Prevention more then 16 years. Prior to that, she was a Senior Staff Nurse in the HCMC Surgical ICU. She has been the state coordinator for the THINK FIRST Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Prevention program for 16 years. She has planned and coordinated countless injury programs including bike rodeos, high school mock car crashes, worksite programs, and car seat safety events. She has received several prevention grants; most recently, she just concluded a four-year Robert Wood Johnson-funded Injury Free Coalition for Kids project. She was one of the first child passenger safety technician instructors in the nation and has trained more then 700 technicians in Minnesota.  Currently she is a member of the State Child Passenger Safety Advisory Board.

In 2001, Julie Philbrook was honored by her peers with the first Minnesota Injury Prevention Professional Award. Also in 2001, she won the HCMC Excellence in Nursing Award. In 2002, she received the AAA

Minneapolis Safety Hero Award and in 2003 the Hennepin County Star Performer Service Improvement Award.

The Trauma Prevention Programs at Hennepin County Medical Center has also been recognized over the years with the following awards:

  • 2001- National Association of Counties Achievement Award- Family Safety Resource Center
  • 1998- National Association of Counties Achievement Award- Child Passenger Safety Training Center
  • 1998- Minnesota Hospital and Healthcare Community Health Award
  • 1997- Allstate Safety Leadership Award
  • 1996– National Association of Counties Achievement Award- Mock Car Crash
