Henne-Teen Initiative

This initiative has been created by Aquí Para Tí/Here For You Youth Development Program with the support of Hennepin East Lake Clinic and the Family and Community Medicine Department.

What is Henne-Teen?

Henne-Teen was created to promote and advocate for teen-friendly and accessible services across HCMC so that all teen patients feel comfortable seeking care in our organization.

Why was Henne-Teen Needed?

Aquí Para Tí (APT) / Here for You is a clinic-based youth development program to serve Latino youth and their families based at Hennepin East Lake Clinic. The program is partially funded by the Eliminating Health Disparities Initiative of the Minnesota Department of Health. As part of that funding, one of APT's missions is advocating to better serve one of the most underserved populations: youth (regardless of race, age, sexual orientation, national origin, or socio economic status).

As part of an effort to eliminate health disparities, APT has launched Henne-Teen, a collaborative project to reach excellence in adolescent care at Hennepin County Medical Center. APT's goal is that this initiative goes across departments, from the outpatient clinics to the ER, and across processes, from check-in to discharge.

Another APT goal is to bring together leaders in adolescent care at Hennepin County Medical Center to multiply their efforts.

What will Henne-Teen do?

Henne-Teen will bring together a group of HCMC professionals from different departments to:

  • Start a dialogue about adolescent care practices across the organization
  • Discuss issues affecting adolescent patient care
  • Promote a teen friendly organization
  • Provide support to providers working in this field

Henne-Teen will be a resource for professionals working with adolescents in HCMC.

Confidentiality matters.

Working with parents

“Parents matter! Children and teens depend on parents for information about beliefs, values and expectations related to sexuality and their decision-making. Research shows that young people who feel connected to their parents and clearly understand their family's values concerning sexuality are more likely to avoid risk-taking behaviors like early sexual activity…”(Taken from Moappp).
