Neurology

What can a neurologist do for the Huntington's Disease patient? 

The neurologist is involved in the initial diagnosis of patients who are suspected to have symptoms of Huntington's Disease.  They are also involved in the ongoing neurological management of affected patients, counseling of families and predictive testing for at-risk individuals.

Education/Outreach Activities

Dr. Nance has been the Medical Director of the HDSA-COE at HCMC since 1991.  She is Board Certified in Neurology and Genetics.  She leads the HD clinic’s research efforts and has written two books published by the Huntington Disease Society of America (HDSA) about Huntington Disease. 
  • Medical Adviser to MN Chapter of HDSA
  • HDSA National Center of Excellence Committee member
  • Member of HSG Steering Committee
  • Director of US HD Genetic Testing Group
  • Frequent invited speaker to regional, national and international HD patient conferences
  • Author of several articles, chapters and books on HD, with special interest in
    Juvenile HD, Genetic Aspects of HD, and Team Management of HD
  • Teaches medical students and health professionals about all aspects of HD

  • Team member of the HD clinic since 1994
  • Past State HD Convention speaker
  • Co-Investigator for PHAROS study
  • Speaks in the community on many topics,
    including HD, Stroke and Sleep Disorders
  • Teaches Residents and students at HCMC and at
    U of MN and Pharmacy students at the U of MN
