HCMC's Cardiology Division offers a wide range of patient-care services, including:

An active Coronary Care Unit specializing in the treatment of heart attacks, severe hemodynamic problems, and cardiac rhythm disturbances.

A Cardiology Consultation Service offering daily evaluation of both inpatient and urgent outpatient problems.

A Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory offering catheter-based diagnostics and therapeutics, including coronary angiography, angioplasty, coronary stent placements, permanent pacemaker and defibrillator implantation and radiofrequency ablation of arrhythmias.

The Echocardiography, and Nuclear Cardiography Laboratories offering a full range of ECG monitoring and noninvasive imaging services. These include Holter and event monitoring, comprehensive stress testing with ECG monitoring, exercise echocardiography, exercise perfusion scintigraphy, and pharmacologic stress tests.

A comprehensive Arrhythmia Management Program involving all aspects of current diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. These include drug therapy, electrophysiologic testing, pacemakers, defibrillators, and radiofrequency ablation.

The Cardiology Clinic, offering daily outpatient consultation and follow-up in a location convenient to the cardiology inpatient services and laboratories. Specialized follow-up is available for problems such as congestive heart failure, women’s cardiovascular health, and cardiovascular care in the patient with chronic renal failure.

A new Cardiac Therapies Program, coordinating cardiovascular research sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, American Heart Association, and the pharmaceutical industry. Current programs include the treatment of heart attacks and severe angina, congestive heart failure, heart disease and renal failure, and the cardiovascular aspects of obesity and diet drug therapy.

The Cardiac Short-Stay Unit (CSSU) opened in January, 2002. This unit is dedicated to the rapid evaluation for and treatment of acute coronary syndromes.
