The Hennepin County Recreational Therapy Department in Psychiatry is committed to providing comprehensive, high quality service to inpatients, the Day Treatment Program, and the Partial Hospital Program. Recreational Therapy is provided for clients in these programs to encourage and enable the development and maintenance of a healthy leisure lifestyle.

Goals
The goal of therapeutic recreation is to work as part of the interdisciplinary team enabling the client to perform at their highest level of functioning. The Therapeutic Recreation Department provides basic skill development groups, leisure education groups and recreation opportunities to aid in the achievement of that goal.

The Therapeutic Recreation Department is committed to providing each client with the opportunity to participate and develop an awareness of their leisure values and attitudes and provide recreational opportunities and community reintegration.

Treatment Team
The inpatient psychiatry program has 11 therapeutic recreation specialists; Day Treatment Program has four therapeutic specialists; and the Partial Hospital Program has two therapeutic recreation specialists.

Group Programming Structure
Inpatient Psychiatry: 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. seven days a week.
Day Treatment: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Partial Hospital: 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
