Each person
served is the focus of concern and control for all decisions affecting
him/her. Each person's right to self determination is respected. At the
same time, we acknowledge our obligation as rehabilitation professionals
for the welfare, benefit and prevention of harm to the persons served.
We recognize the long-term implications of activity limitations and participation
restrictions. We accept our role in using the person's financial resources
efficiently.
Informed choice
is the process that underlies our relationship with the person served.
We will support this relationship as the rehab process evolves by:
•
respecting the values, interests and goals of the persons served.
providing
information and guidance to them about the risks/benefits of treatment
and discharge alternatives.
assessing each patient's functional ability to participate in decision
making.
We will carry
out our responsibilities in accordance with:
the
Patient Bill of Rights
the
Hennepin County and HCMC policies related to the Patient Bill of Rights
the
ethical guidelines set forth by our professional organizations
the standards of the organizations that accredit our programs
Knapp policies,
procedures and patient care practices will reflect the interdisciplinary
staff's responsibility to operationalize this charter.
