Our comprehensive Arrhythmia Management Program involves all aspects of current diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. These include drug therapy, electrophysiologic testing, pacemakers, defibrillators, and radiofrequency ablation.
The Cardiac Cath Lab offers state-of-the-art technology and treatment for heart disease. Two coronary digital labs are dedicated to offering coronary and peripheral catheter based procedures - both diagnostic and therapeutic. Coronary angiography, percutaneous intervention, rotational atherectomy, cutting balloon angioplasty and coronary stent implantation (drug eluting stents) are performed.
The Cath Lab offers acute treatment of coronary artery disease. In-stent restenosis (clogging in the artery at the site of previous stent placement) is treated in the lab by balloon angioplasty and localized radiation treatment inside the artery (intravascular brachytherapy). Invasive assessment of coronary lesions can be done via pressure wire for fractional flow reserve and with intravascular ultrasound. The Cath Lab also offers electrophysiology procedures and the implantation of the newest pacemakers and intracardiac defibrillators. Arrhythmias are diagnosed and treated with the most current technology, including 3D mapping. The HCMC Cath Lab staff are talented and dedicated team members under the direction of Dr. Fouad Bachour, who brings many years of experience and expertise to the lab. Dr. Marco Guerrero directs the electrophysiology services and is committed to its success. The Cath Lab participates in the American College of Cardiology data registry. Outcomes are compared nationally and demonstrate excellent results. Link to press release "EMS-activated Cath Lab calls get blocked arteries opened faster"
The Cardiology Clinic offers daily outpatient consultation and follow-up in a location convenient to the cardiology inpatient services and laboratories. Specialized follow-up is available for problems such as congestive heart failure, arrhythmia management, preventative cardiology, cardiovascular/diabetic care and cardiovascular care in the patient with chronic renal failure. To make an appointment, call 612-873-4105.

Cardiovascular Pulmonary Rehabilitation Cardiovascular Pulmonary Rehabilitation offers individualized, comprehensive care and follow-up care to the cardiovascular patient. The program provides monitored exercise and education with an emphasis on risk factor modification and life-style management.
Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP) EECP is a non-surgical treatment for people with coronary artery disease and chest pain (angina). For many patients, medications alone are not enough to control symptoms of angina. Often, these symptoms can be treated with bypass surgery or with angioplasty and stenting of the coronary arteries. However, these procedures are sometimes too dangerous for patients or simply not possible due to the nature of the blockages present in the coronary arteries. EECP is an ideal option for patients who are unable to undergo surgery or angioplasty or for those who have ongoing chest pain despite such procedures. EECP consists of a series of pressure cuffs that are attached to the legs and thighs. These cuffs rapidly inflate and deflate timed to each heart beat and increases blood flow to the heart muscle. Treatments are performed on a daily basis for one hour each day over a seven-week treatment period. These treatments may stimulate the growth of collateral blood vessels in the heart (naturally bypassing the blockages in the coronary arteries) and result in long-lasting improvements in angina. Other benefits of EECP may include an increase in energy, increased exercise tolerance, decreased symptoms of heart failure and decreased need for medications designed to treat angina. EECP was approved by the FDA in 1995 for the treatment of angina in patients with coronary artery disease. Medicare and most private insurance companies will pay for EECP treatment. However, the level of reimbursement may very between insurance companies and you should check with your insurance provider for details. EECP may not be for everyone. Talk with your physician to see if you may qualify for EECP or call 612-873-5569 for more information.
The Coronary Care Unit specializes in the treatment of heart attacks, severe heart failure, and heart rhythm problems. The CCU's mission is to provide quality care to patients and their families in a progressive, cardiovascular intensive care setting. To achieve this mission, we are committed to:
Our 28-bed Telemetry Unit, located on the sixth floor of the Orange Building (see HCMC map), specializes in Cardiac and Renal Care. Services include;
The Cardiac Short Stay Unit is an 11-bed unit specializing in evaluating patients with low-risk chest pain. It is located on the sixth floor of the Orange Building (see map). The unit's Nurse Coordinator facilitates patient evaluation and testing to provide high quality and efficient service.
Monitoring and Imaging Services
The Echocardiography Laboratory, the Nuclear Cardiography Laboratory, and the ECG Laboratory offer a full range of ECG monitoring and non-invasive imaging services. These include holter and event monitoring, comprehensive stress testing with ECG monitoring, echocardiography, exercise cardiography, exercise perfusion scintigraphy, and pharmacological stress testing. The Echocardiography Laboratory is certified by ICAEL (Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardio-graphy Laboratories.
