The Nurse-Midwife Service at Hennepin County Medical Center is a practice of Certified Nurse-Midwives who care for women throughout their life, including during pregnancy, labor and birth. The midwives see patients in seven locations throughout the metro area and deliver babies at Hennepin County Medical Center.
Hennepin County Medical Center’s Nurse-Midwife Service was the first Nurse-Midwife Service in Minnesota, and has been welcoming new babies since 1971. We believe that pregnancy is a special time in the life of a family, and that birth can be an empowering experience.
We believe in keeping labor as natural as possible, but are skilled in using interventions when needed to keep mothers and babies safe and healthy. Physicians who specialize in Obstetrics and Gynecology are available as part of the health care team if needed.
Philosophy of Care
We believe all clients have the right to safe, satisfying health care that meets their needs and beliefs. All clients have the right to information so that they can make decisions about their own health care.
