| Paramedic
Program -
HCMC
is a recognized leader in education and research. Now, HCMC EMS
Education, in partnership with Ridgewater College, will sponsor
a twelve month diploma paramedic program with class sessions offered
on the HCMC campus, Ridgewater and Hutchinson campuses. This
program will prepare students to become Nationally Registered
EMT-Paramedics, with the ability to transfer to a degree program.
We have designed this program to help accommodate
the working student. The
class sessions will be offered through ITV, web-casting, and classroom
activities and include hospital
clinical experiences
and EMS field experiences; this will include the sites
of Hennepin Medical Center, Rice Memorial Hospital, and Hutchinson
Area Health Care. The
classroom sessions are held two evenings a week, 6p-10p, and an
eight-hour Saturday a month.
The cost of the program
will be approximately $10,000 which will be broken down into semesters,
plus books, and fees.
The prerequisite
is that you must hold a current EMT certification.
At this time we are working on the ability to offer financial
aid to qualifying students, as well as other loan and grant options.
One
of several benefits for students include the opportunity to learn
and work closely with HCMC EMS paramedics, and gain valuable experience
working with this high volume urban/suburban EMS provider. At
the same time, HCMC EMS staff have the opportunity to become familiar
with the students. This EMS field experience can be helpful to,
both, students in selecting their preferred employers and helpful
to HCMC EMS in promoting a better paramedic and service fit.
All
students are required to take the student assessment test (ACCUPLACER),
before being allowed to register for classes, this many be done
at any MNSCU institution.
Please make arrangements for this test ASAP. If you plan on testing
at Ridgewater College, please call Heather Wright in Hutchinson,
or Jane Friedrich at Willmar at 1-800-722-1151. In the metro area
you may call Hennepin Tech 763-424-0928, Century College at 651-799-3352,
Inver Hills Community College at 651-450-8687 or any MNSCU institution.
Most institutions do this test at no charge.
