Paramedic Refresher Course
This course is designed for practicing paramedics who are in need of an approved State of Minnesota or National Registry Paramedic Refresher course.

The course consists of review of the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Standard Curriculum (NSC) for paramedics. NSC subjects cover airway, breathing and cardiology emergencies, medical emergencies, trauma, and obstetrics and pediatrics. The curriculum also incorporates updates on treatment procedures, medical research and equipment relevant to the emergency medical services field. This course will also focus on the necessary didactic and psychomotor skills necessary to stay current with the new National EMS Education Standards.  Topics included such as CPAP, 12-Lead EKG interpretation, maintenance of blood and blood products, thrombolytic initiation and chest tube monitoring will ensure your upgrade to the new standard Paramedic.

This course will be offered in three eight hour sessions which will focus primarily on psychomotor skills, and 24 hours of instructor lead web-based learning, which students can access at their convenience.  Please note that strict course work deadlines will be enforced.

The Paramedic Refresher course will also provide certification in the following disciplines:

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Course

The Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) course was developed by the American Heart Association to train first responders to resuscitate victims of heart attack, stroke and other heart emergencies. The ACLS course builds on basic life support classes, which teach CPR and use of the automated external defibrillator, and emphasizes teamwork and communication in critical situations where life support is needed. This course may be incorporated into the paramedic refresher course or may be taken separately.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support Course

Pediatric life support courses cover the specific techniques used in working with infants and children who stop breathing as a result of cardiac arrest, choking or shock. Learning to spot the symptoms of a child in need of life support is part of this course. Paramedics may take this course as continuing education or may be incorporated into a paramedic recertification course.

International Trauma Life Support (Advanced Provider)

International Trauma Life Support Courses give you the knowledge and hands-on skills to take better care of trauma patients. The ITLS framework is a global standard that enables you to master the latest techniques in rapid assessment, appropriate intervention and identification of immediate life-threatening injuries.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) For Experienced Providers (American Heart Association)
This course is designed to provide experienced ACLS providers with new information on how to assess and manage critical cardiovascular emergencies not currently addressed in standard ACLS provider renewal courses.

The course covers management of the standard ACLS core scenarios and focuses on four advanced areas of ACLS in 90-minute interactive small group sessions using a case-based format. These four areas are acute coronary syndromes, electrolytes, toxicology, and environmental emergencies.

This exciting addition to the family of AHA programs should help keep ACLS exciting for those advanced providers who have become bored with the standard renewal course.
