Wilderness EMS Education

Wilderness EMS includes a variety of available courses:

Wilderness EMT Upgrade, Wilderness First Responder (WFR), and Wilderness First Aid

Wilderness Medicine differs significantly from conventional EMS courses and other programs that are oriented toward the urban environment. This course teaches what to do with a medical emergency when help is miles away and calling 911 isn’t an option. We prepare students for emergency situations that involve prolonged patient care, severe environments and improvised equipment.
 
Wilderness EMT Upgrade
This course is intended for EMS professionals who currently have state or national ceritfication as an EMT.  The concepts taught go far beyond street medicine as they  teach you to deal with critical patients in difficult and extended transport situations.  This training is essential for EMT’s who work in rural services and will expand the knowledge level of of even the most experienced urban EMS providers.  Many have found wilderness training to be extrememy beneficial during “urban wilderness” settings of extreme weather, natural and man-made disasters and weapons of mass destruction.

Wilderness First Responder (WFR)
This course is ideal medical training for outdoor educators, guides, SAR team members, and others who work or play in remote areas. The curriculum is comprehensive and practical, including the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments.
