Welcome to the Advanced Cardiac Life Support Renewal Course for HCMC Staff members. Two classes are conducted, a morning and an afternoon class.
Class begins at 7:30 for the AM class.
Class begins at 12:30 for the PM class.
Course Focus:
The major concept underlying this course is responding to a code during the first 10 minutes. The scenarios are directed at in hospital patients. The educators will be HCMC a combination of EMS Education staff and staff nurses.Pre-Course Work:
Please access and complete the lectures and quiz files before coming to class. Bring your quiz listed (below) on this webpage. These files are: Written Precourse ACLS test and CD quiz prior to class. The ACLS Study Guide (textbook) and CD are available in the Health Sciences library on the Skyway level. The course materials include:
You should be well versed in the standard ACLS algorithms and be prepared to verbally review them. Participants are expected to review the ACLS text and view the ACLS lectures, both of which can be viewed by clicking on the links displayed below on this page or a CD can be obtained from the Health Services library.
Bring your text book, pre-course ACLS test and presentations “CD” Quiz to class. We will have five skill stations for you to participate in with other students.

Detailed Course Schedule
Class will be held in the EMS Education classrooms on level one of the HCMC Parking Facility at 600 Park Avenue in Minneapolis (view directions). Parking is available in the ramp and at several surface lots located nearby (view campus map). Coffee, soda, and vending machines are available in the building. There are restaurants within walking distance and a refrigerator and microwave oven available for use.
This course has been designed to provide 8 hours of continuing education units. For successful course completion AND to gain an ACLS Provider renewal card, you must:
- Participate actively in the instructor-led verbal review of the critical actions for the 10 core ACLS cases
- Successfully complete a practical evaluation of CPR and AED skills (see enclosed skill check sheet)
- Successfully complete the ACLS written evaluation
