PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program

Hennepin County Medical Center | Minneapolis, Minnesota

Residency Director: Lynn Weber, Pharm.D, BCOP

Purpose

The purpose of this 12-month PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program is to provide residents the opportunity to accelerate their growth beyond entry-level professional competence in patient-centered care and in pharmacy operational services, and to further the development of leadership skills that can be applied in any position and in any practice setting including general clinical practice, a specialty residency (PGY-2), or a fellowship program.

Graduates of the Hennepin Country Medical Center PGY-1 residency program will be competent and confident practitioners of direct and indirect patient care in multiple practice environments. They will be accountable for achieving optimal medication management as collaborative members of the health care team. Through this experiential training, the PGY-1 resident will:

  • Develop advanced knowledge and skills in pharmacy practice
  • Contribute to an interdisciplinary patient care team offering patient-specific therapeutic interventions to prevent, treat, cure, rehabilitate and alleviate medical conditions and diseases
  • Exercise skill in educating and communicating with other health care professionals, patients, and the community on topics relating to patient centered care.
  • Enhance skills in providing drug information, detecting and reporting adverse drug reactions, drug interactions, patient-specific drug selection and dosage adjustment, and therapeutic drug monitoring
  • Advance their knowledge and understanding of pharmacy management and operations systems
  • Demonstrate professional maturity by following a personal philosophy of practice, assessing their own performance, exhibiting commitment to the profession, and exercising leadership in improving the safety of the medication-use system
