Hennepin County Medical Center Transplant Program

Hennepin County Medical Center’s transplant program was established in 1963. It was the first transplant center in the Upper Midwest and one of the first successful programs in the country. Clinical pharmacists have been an active part of this treatment team since 1985. Approximately 90 kidney transplants are performed each year, with an increasing percentage involving living donors.  More than 2600 kidney transplants have been performed to date. Experience, along with the use of new therapies, diagnostic tools, and surgical  procedures,  allow  HCMC  to  give  transplant  patients  and  living  donors the best

possible care.
