Deferred Compensation
As an alternative to Social Security tax, you may elect to participate in a deferred compensation plan. A percentage of your pre-tax base pay is contributed to your designated investment options in the Minnesota Deferred Compensation Plan.

Life, Dental and Health Insurance

Life Insurance
HCMC offers basic life insurance of $25, 000 for individual coverage only. Coverage is provided by the Community Council of Graduate Medical Education (MMCGME). The MMCGME facilities include HCMC, Regions and Fairview University Medical Center.

Dental Coverage
Dental coverage is available for purchase by the resident.

Maternity/Paternity Leave
A leave of absence for birth or adoption of a child will be granted through request of the program director; six weeks paid maternity plus 6 additonal weeks unpaid maternity leave or two weeks paternity leave is the standard policy.

Vacation
In the first year, residents receive two weeks (14 calendar days) paid vacation and one unpaid vacation from June 24 – July 1.

Second and third year residents receive three weeks paid vacation annually.

Academic and Interview Leave
Residents receive 14 days per residency for academic or interview leave. Monetary compensation for travel expenses is given for national presentations.

Malpractice
Resident physicians are covered for malpractice claims with coverage continuing after the termination of residency for any claim that arose during the course of the residency.

Perks

  • Parking - parking is provided at no cost to residents in a ramp adjacent to the hospital
  • Meals - a generous meal allowance is provided. Residents are issued ID cards,

which serve as meal passes.

  • Resident Exercise Center - a 24-hour exercise center is available to residents.
    The center offers a variety of equipment, free weights and showering facility.

  • Resident Assistance Program (RAP) - this is an employee assistance program designed specifically for residents and is free of charge.
  • Moonlighting - Moonlighting is available to all our residents who are U.S. citizens.. In addition to expected opportunities within the hospital, our residents also work within the larger Minneapolis community in many different settings. As of this writing residents work in detention facilities, Methadone clinics, and in detox settings.
  • PDA - Every IM resident is given a PDA at the beginning of their intern year.
