Podiatric Residency Program

The podiatric medical and surgical residencies are separate residencies as classified by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education. The PGY-1 program functions as a podiatric medical internship with an emphasis on medicine and non-podiatric surgery. Core clinical rotations include podiatric medicine and biomechanics, medical imaging, ward medicine, ambulatory medicine, pathology, anesthesiology, and surgery. Elective rotations include musculoskeletal sepsis, emergency medicine, vascular surgery, orthopaedic hand surgery, and general orthopaedic surgery.

Podiatric surgical training introduced in the PGY-1 year is the focus of years two and three. Podiatric clinic and surgery are augmented with the following medical and surgical electives: Orthopaedic surgery, plastic surgery, general surgery, vascular surgery, rheumatology, and emergency medicine

Clinical research is facilitated by clinical experiences developed in the active outpatient clinics at HCMC and Park Nicollet Medical Center. Basic research opportunities exist at HCMC's Orthopaedic Learning Center. Residencies are selected by computer match using the Central Application Service for Podiatric Residencies.
