Hennepin-Regions Psychiatry Training Program Coordinators

Hi - We are Mary and Jeanne, the coordinators of the Psychiatry Residency Program. The bad news first -- Minneapolis/St. Paul does get cold in the winter and that season lasts longer than in most areas of the country. However, the good new is that Minnesota is known as the Land of 10,000 lakes and from late spring through fall it seems that the entire population is outside. The Twin Cities offer an amazing variety of cultural activities. There are a bevy of theatres here with local productions as well as the Broadway tours, numerous dance companies, 2 orchestras, an opera company, a large and healthy music scene, several art museums, a children's museum, a science and a natural history museum. There are 2 zoos, and if you like hiking/biking/camping, both the County and State Park systems are extensive and well maintained. We have a wide variety of sports and are home to both professional and college teams from the NFL, NBA, and MLB. The University of Minnesota Gophers football team opened their new statium in 2009, and next year (2010) the Minnesota Twins will be move to their new outdoor stadium. It truly is a nice place to live.

Hennepin-Regions Psychiatry Training Program Coordinators

Granted we're a bit biased because we work here, but we feel that the staff psychiatrists at both sites
are an amazing group of dedicated, intelligent, personable physicians, most of whom have the gift of making us laugh. We're honestly proud to work with them and our residents. We have more than a half a dozen former residents on staff at HCMC and Regions, a testament not only to the quality of our residents, but their training!

When we asked our residents about the strengths of our program, they mentioned . . .

  • our flexibility
  • the innovative nature of the program
  • resident input is not only sought out but the program is responsive to that input
  • the diversity of clinics, didactics, patient populations, elective opportunities, and indeed the residents themselves
  • our resident retreats and parties that enhance the feeling of "family"
  • the program recognizes the importance of personal life during residency
  • the generous perks including free parking, free meals and hearty CME fund
  • Unique emergency psychiatry department (APS)

We take great pride in our program and invite you to find out why!
