Hennepin-Regions Psychiatry Training Program

Welcome & Application

Thank you for your interest in the Hennepin-Regions Psychiatry Training Program.

Established in 1996, our program is a partnership between Hennepin County Medical Center and Regions Hospital, both of which are large teaching hospitals with Level 1 Trauma Centers. Located in two different dynamic Midwestern urban centers, the

hospitals provide a diverse patient population as well as multiple learning environments.

During our four-year program, residents participate in the required clinical rotations and comprehensive didactic training necessary to practice general psychiatry. Residents are also encouraged to develop specialized areas of interest during elective rotations.

We have six PGY-1 openings for the 2006/2007 academic year and will begin seeking applications when ERAS open its online system in September of 2005. We do NOT accept paper applications. All ERAS applications must contain transcripts of your USMLE scores. Selected applicants may expect to be scheduled for an interview on one of the following dates:

Nov. 14, Nov. 21, Dec. 5, Dec. 12, Jan. 9 or Jan. 23

Additional Application Information:

  • We sponsor J-1 visas.

  • The program requires Minnesota Licensing by the end of the G2 year. Due to Minnesota licensing regulations residents must pass each step of the USMLE in
three attempts or less. In addition, Steps I through III have to be passed within
a 7-year time period. Lastly, please note that new USMLE guidelines require that
all foreign medical graduates and US graduates must past the Step II Clinical Skills prior to sitting for the USMLE Step III test.

  • For foreign medical school graduates, our program considers applicants with clinical psychiatry experience in this country and experience in other countries.

  • We do not sponsor psychiatry observerships or externships at either HCMC or Regions Hospital.

Application Deadlines:

•  Applications are accepted until December 1, 2005.

•  Applications received after December 1, 2005 will only be reviewed if interview times

are available.

We look forward to hearing from you!
