Congratulations to the EMS Education staff on successfully helping our students earn their national registry of EMT-Basic certification at significantly higher than the national average. The NREMT-Basic certification pass rate for EMS Education students for January 1, 2010 to September 30, 2010 is 92% on first attempt and 95% within 3 attempts. Compared to the national average for the same period, 68% on first attempt and 77% within 3 attempts. This high success rate reflects a collaborative effort and hardwork of both students and staff. |

| Tactical EMT Refresher (EMT-R) and Tactical First Responder Refresher (FR-R) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Tactical EMT and Tactical First Responders refresher provides instructional principles and skills that can be used every day by front line patrol personnel, field investigators. This course is not designed to replace a formal tactical program for SWAT teams, this course should be considered a force multiplier of tactical medical personnel. This course covers all of the basic EMT & First Responder topics required for National Registry and Minnesota refresher certification and is taught by a cadre of well-qualified and unique faculty. The faculty collectively has decades of experience in emergency patient care, tactical EMS, and law enforcement operations. Available only to sworn law enforcement personnel, this course is unlike any standard EMT Refresher that you have attended. It will enable you to use the skills that you have developed and apply them specifically to your occupational setting in ways that you have never thought of. Following successful program completion, your certification is valid for a period of 2 years but the skills you earn will be helpful to you and your partners for your career. First Responders will have to attend the complete three day course. Overview
Personnel attending must have completed an EMT or First Responder course prior and be at their recertification point for consideration. |

| Ridgewater\HCMC Paramedic Program - HCMC is a recognized leader in education and research. Hennepin County Medical Center EMS Education, in partnership with Ridgewater College, sponsors a twelve month diploma paramedic program with class sessions offered on the HCMC campus, Willmar and Hutchinson Ridgewater College campuses. This program will prepare students to become Nationally Registered EMT-Paramedics, with the ability to transfer to a degree program. We have designed this program to help accommodate
the working student. The
class sessions will be offered through ITV, web-casting, and classroom
activities and include hospital
clinical experiences
and EMS field experiences; this will include the sites
of Hennepin Medical Center, Rice Memorial Hospital, and Hutchinson
Area Health Care. The
classroom sessions are held two evenings a week, 6p-10p, and an
eight-hour Saturday a month. One of several benefits for students include the opportunity to learn and work closely with HCMC EMS paramedics, and gain valuable experience working with this high volume urban/suburban EMS provider. At the same time, HCMC EMS staff have the opportunity to become familiar with the students. This EMS field experience can be helpful to, both, students in selecting their preferred employers and helpful to HCMC EMS in promoting a better paramedic and service fit. All
students are required to take the student assessment test (ACCUPLACER),
before being allowed to register for classes, this many be done
at any MNSCU institution. If
you are interested in general information, contact
Bev Hartzburg at 320-222-6063, or email bev.hartzburg@ridgewater.edu |
