HCMC Health Sciences Library

The Health Sciences Library is located in the   hospital's Red Building on the Level 2 Skyway.   Take the Red Building lobby elevators up to the   2nd level, turn left as you exit the elevator, and   right at the corner. The Library is located on the   right side of the hallway.

The Health Sciences Library at Hennepin offers a variety of information resources. MEDLINE, EMBASE, as well as several other databases, are available for searching 24 hours a day, seven days a week via the Intranet.

A Librarian is available to run literature searches during normal business hours, which are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Librarian can provide training on database resources, including MEDLINE and Internet sources, orientation to library services, and the use of information resources to assist with patient care, by appointment. The "library without walls" project is bringing core databases and reference sources to the clinician's workstation in addition to having it available in the library.

Clinical resources, such as UpToDate and eMedicine are also available on hcmc.net via Clinical Portal.

The library's learning center area includes access for staff to PCs for word processing, graphics, databases, spreadsheets, and the Internet. CD drives, a laser jet printer, and optical scanners are also part of the learning center's hardware.

The library is a comfortable physical space of more than 9,000 square feet containing a strong clinical collection of materials (books, journals, audiovisual, and computer software) that support all program areas of the hospital.

Self-service photocopying of library materials is available. The Health Sciences Library has lending arrangements with local libraries for borrowing of items not available in our collection or through other electronic sources. The library is a member of the National Library of Medicine's Interlibrary Loan Network to obtain items not available locally. For urgent patient care needs, rush document delivery service is available.
