Innovations in Patient Care

  • HHF Safety Net -  Meets urgent and unaffordable needs of patients.
  • HHF Bernard and Dorothy Rosenberg Acts of Kindness Fund - Makes modest gifts that will provide practical help or a lift in spirits to someone in need. The fund was established in 1996 to honor the memory of these people who were so committed to the HCMC, its patients and staff. 
  • HHF Cancer Center - Provides for comforts and needs of cancer patients, supports service improvements.
  • HHF HIV/AIDS - Assists with urgent needs of persons living with HIV/AIDS including medical costs, health insurance premiums and other basic needs not attainable through community resources.
  • HHF Patient Centered Care - Provides funding for programs to test new ideas and improve care to patients.
  • HHF Child Growth - Supports research, education, advocacy and child health related efforts within the Pediatric department.
  • HHF Inspire Arts - Provides arts opportunities for connection, creativity and self-expression that promote a warm and healing environment for patients, families and employees.
  • HHF Medical Home - Peds - Makes improvements in services provided to children with special health needs, such as disabilities and chronic illness.
  • HHF Native American Assistance - Assists with urgent needs, especially for families and patients that come long distances for care.
  • HHF Dental - Meets the needs of children and patients with disabilities and mental health issues.
  • HHF Family Medical Center- Assists with the urgent needs of families and patients and supports service and facility improvements.
  • HHF Women’s Assistance - Meets urgent and unaffordable medical expenses for women and their families.
  • HHF NICU - Assists parents who have a child here for extended periods of time to remain at the child’s bedside, helps meet special needs of families and supports service improvements.
  • HHF Children’s Literacy - distributes 20,000 children’s books annually (newborn to young adult) throughout the HHS system because of the crucial connection between literacy and healthy development/school readiness and success/long-term positive health outcomes.
  • HHF Pediatric ICU - Assists parents who have a child here for extended periods of time to remain at the child’s bedside, helps meet special needs of families and supports service improvements.
  • HHF Volunteers - Supports and recognizes volunteers as they dedicate hours of service to assist staff and enhance services to our patients and families.
  • HHF Bruggemeyer Memorial Psychiatry - Helps with urgent needs that exceed the limits of other resources or fall in the gap for both inpatients and outpatients.
  • HHF Mental-Illness Chemical Dependency - Helps meet the urgent needs of MI/CD patients.
  • HHF Hennepin Women's Mental Health Program - Supports a perinatal mental health training program and a perinatal consultation service to help prenatal care providers assess and treat pregnant and postpartum women with depression, anxiety, and other mental illness.
  • Chaplaincy - Helps chaplains meet the needs of patients and families.
  • Grief Support - Provides comfort and support to individuals and families experiencing the loss of a loved one at HCMC.

Educating the Healthcare Workforce of the Future

  • HHF Health Sciences Education Center- A leader in healthcare education, HCMC views building this facility as essential for training Minnesota’s future medical professionals. Employee gifts would provide art, educational display cases, and other visible furnishings in the education center.
  • HHF Paving a Way to Your Nursing Future - Helps employees in non-nursing jobs at HCMC pursue the education and training necessary to become a Registered Nurse.
  • HHF Hennepin Medical History Center- Preserves the historical legacy of HCMC, MMC and campus predecessors with two extensive and fascinating collections.

 

Trauma/Critical Care including TBI, Stroke and Adult Trauma

  • HHF Burn Unit - Meets the needs of burn patients and their families, supports service improvements and educational opportunities for staff.
  • HHF Hennepin Stroke Center - Supports services for the treatment of patients who have experienced a stroke and for stroke prevention including purchases of new equipment, patient/family education materials and stroke screening sessions/public awareness of stroke with a focus on prevention.
  • HHF Injury Free - Supports initiatives for safety and injury prevention including the new Comfort and Hope Totes for trauma patients’ families.
  • HHF Domestic Violence - Supports dealing effectively with cases of domestic violence, assists victims of domestic violence.
  • HHF Pediatric Brain Injury - Provides educational, informational, and comforting materials to support children with brain injuries and their families such as a Wii gaming system and TV for therapeutic and recreational activities.
  • HHF Poison Center – Provides poison information and toxicology consulting services.
  • HHF Sexual Assault Resource Service – Provides forensic medical services to sexual assault survivors.
  • HHF Traumatic Brain Injury Center - Support services for the treatment of patients who have experienced traumatic brain injury or for TBI prevention such as patient/family education materials, the purchase of new equipment for patient needs or prevention materials such as bicycle helmets.

  • HHF Trauma Services - Supports car seat and bike helmet availability to those lacking resources and promotes other injury prevention initiatives and education including senior fall prevention an home safety.
  • HHF Transplant Clinic - Assists with medication, travel and parking and other urgent needs of clients.

Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation Funds Research and Education

  • MMRF Addiction Research and Education - Develops new treatment approaches to drug addiction of all types - tobacco, alcohol, opiates and other illicit drugs.
  • MMRF Alternative Medicine - Provides ongoing support for outcomes research at the Alternative Medicine Clinic. Outcomes research measures the effectiveness of complimentary medical practices like acupuncture and the use of herbal remedies.
  • MMRF Alvin L. Schultz Research & Education - Brings in visiting professors for Medical Grand Rounds and other special events. Also provides residents off-campus educational experiences in the US or abroad.
  • MMRF Berman Center for Clinical Outcomes & Research - Supports clinical trials research for new treatments for conditions including high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney disease, stroke, neurological disorders, diabetes, breast cancer, and osteoporosis.
  • MMRF Cancer Center - Provides ongoing support for a national clinical trial of new drug therapies for breast cancer.
  • MMRF Cardiac Biomarkers - Supports studies conducted on cardiac biomarkers – proteins released by damaged heart tissue that are indicative of heart failure and heart attack.
  • MMRF Center for Urban Health - Works to improve and sustain the health of diverse, urban populations.
  • MMRF Dementia and Aging Research - Supports research into the causes of dementia and how the condition progresses. Research aims to find ways to slow the development of dementia in geriatric patients with chronic disease conditions.
  • MMRF Dentistry - Provides funds used for research projects that explore the link between dental health and the health of pregnant women and people in general.
  • MMRF Diabetes - Supports diabetes research in newly arrived populations to the US and the progression of diabetes after new populations acclimatize to the lifestyle and diet in the US.
  • MMRF Emergency Medicine - Supports research on improving pain management for patients in the emergency room.
  • MMRF Geriatrics - Provides funds used for research on aging age-related diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, diabetes, and kidney failure & dialysis.
  • MMRF Gastrointestinal/Liver Disease - Supports investigations on the cellular processes involved in liver regeneration and diseases that affect the liver.
  • MMRF Heart Disease - Provides funds support basic science and clinical research trials for new and innovative treatments for heart disease.
  • MMRF HIV/AIDS Research - Supports research studies on new drugs and management practices for people living with HIV/AIDS.
  • MMRF Huntington’s Disease - Provides funds used to conduct clinical trials on new treatments for Huntington’s disease.
  • MMRF Kidney Disease - Funds research that explores why kidney transplants fail and why complications arise in transplant recipients with the goal of improving matching kidney donors with recipients.
  • MMRF Minnesota Heart Failure Consortium - Supports the Minnesota Heart Failure Consortium which is a network of researchers across Minnesota who cooperatively administer research studies on innovative treatments of heart failure.
  • MMRF Nurse Midwife Services - Supports research and education programs for the nurse midwife program.
  • MMRF Organ Transplantation & Chronic Kidney Disease - Supports research on the underlying genetic reasons that transplanted organs are rejected by recipients’ bodies.
  • MMRF Orthopaedics & Biomechanics - Supports research and development of practical solutions for everyday orthopaedic and biomechanic illnesses and injuries.
  • MMRF Pediatric & Childhood Hunger - Supports research on the impact that food insecurity has on the health and development of children from households facing social and economic disadvantages.
  • MMRF Pediatric Asthma - Helps pediatric doctors educate families about how to care for children with asthma and provides funds for research on the causes and treatments of pediatric asthma.
  • MMRF Pediatric Research, Education, & Advocacy - Provides funds used for research program studies on pediatric health issues from conception to early adulthood, particularly focused on diverse, urban populations.
  • MMRF Sleep Disorders - Supports ongoing research into the causes of and treatment options for sleep disorders.
  • MMRF Tobacco Treatment Research - Supports basic science research studies for novel treatments for nicotine addiction.
  • MMRF Trauma/Burn - Provides funds used for research on improved treatments and outcomes for trauma and burn patients.
  • MMRF Traumatic Brain Injury - Supports ongoing research investigations on ways to preserve cognitive abilities by improving oxygen delivery to brain tissue after a person has suffered a traumatic brain injury.
  • MMRF Urgent Needs - Provides seed funding to initiate new research projects, bridge funding for continuing research projects, matching funding, and other needs as they arise.
