Rotation Application

Emergency Medicine at HCMC
Emstat > Evaluation

During this rotation students are supervised by third year Emergency Medicine residents and attending physicians who fill out daily evaluation cards (Acad Emerg Med; 5:510). These cards are used to compile information on the studentÍs abilities in interpersonal relations, data acquisition and data synthesis (problem solving). Students are given feedback at the end of each shift. The studentÍs final grade is based on the shift evaluation cards. Grades assigned range from Honors, Excellent, and Satisfactory, to Unsatisfactory.

Characteristics such as ability to elicit an appropriate history and physical, formulate a diagnostic and management plan, procedural skills, motivation and team interactions are evaluated on a shift by shift basis These scores and comments received by the student on their evaluation are summarized in a final report.

The students grade in this system is largely their own responsibility. Cards that are incomplete will not be entered into the grade database. This includes the name of the student, evaluator, and the date of the shift being evaluated. We also ask that you record all procedures you perform during your shift on the back of the card. Failure to turn in at least 12 cards during the rotation may lead to a grade of Unsatisfactory.
