Student Lectures take place each Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30 am until 9 am

        There are 4 set topics for the Tuesday lecture series and these are given by the Pit bosses:

  •         Splinting workshop
  •         Trauma care
  •         Approach to the poisoned patient
  •         Evaluation of Eye complaints

 

        The second Tuesday lectures are given by members of the HCMC Emergency Medicine faculty on a variety of topics of interest. Common topics include:

  •         Chest pain
  •         International Emergency Medicine
  •         Pain management
  •         Cervical spine trauma
  •         Diving emergencies and hyperbaric medicine
  •         Domestic Violence

Attendance at these lectures is mandatory.  Students are also expected to attend Thursday morning conference from 7:30am until noon. (Breakfast and Lunch are provided.)

 

One Wednesday during the rotation you will be scheduled to participate in an animal Procedure Lab.  This lab involves suture skills practice as well as the opportunity to observe and perform a variety of invasive airway and resuscitation skills on a live sheep model.  Participation is optional.  Be sure to inform the student coordinator if you are not interested in participating.
