  • Do not give a sign-out or take one from another student, they need to be assigned to a resident.

     
  • Try to have a plan when you sign out a patient.

  • Be sure to have completed your chart as much as possible and sign the chart.

  • Poor form is to sign out things such as pelvic exams, rectal exams, or placing splints.

  • Most of the residents are very happy to take sign-outs from students, try to be thorough when signing out the patient.
