Emergency Medicine at HCMC
- IRIS – work station
on computer that will give you all recent dictation, labs, and imaging
reports (ask one of
the residents to get you on the computer
- RTAZ – medical imaging
dictation system; call 7-2161 the hit 246# and patient MR#; to go back
one dictation hit zero
- Social Worker
- Chaplain
- Battered Women’s Advocate: all assaults
should have this service offered to them
- Assault Photos – any
male or female should have these photos offered to them and documented
on the chart that it was offered, they are ordered under Treatments
on EMSTAT and the nurses will take the photos
- Security will walk anyone
out to their car at night – don’t be afraid to use this
resource
- Procedures – this is your chance to learn to start
IV’s, draw blood, and do small procedures, take advantage of
the opportunity and don’t be afraid to ask for help
- X-ray: will
send all x-rays to team center A or B, if the patient has been back
from ray for a while and the film does not appear on the digital
imaging system, call 72771 and ask them to send it over. Also, if you
want
an old x-ray not on the system ask the HUC to call for the old jacket
- Poison Center is located in the basement and the operator can connect
you to them. All overdoses or other ingestions should be reported
to them and they will give you information on what to expect or suggestions
for treatment. Also they have a computer that can identify pills
by
the number on the pill.
- CIC (Crisis center): phone number is 73161. All patients in need
of psychiatric counseling or who have any suicidal ideation need
to be transferred to crisis after their ED evaluation is complete.
To
send a patient to crisis you need to call crisis and tell them
about the patient and fill out a crisis form. Once these are complete
turn
in the paper work and let the nurses know that the patient can
be sent to CIC.
