Survival Tips > Other Resources

  • IRIS – work station on computer that will give you all recent dictation, labs, and imaging reports (ask one of the residents to get you on the computer
  • RTAZ – medical imaging dictation system; call 7-2161 the hit 246# and patient MR#; to go back one dictation hit zero

  • Social Worker
  • Chaplain
  • Battered Women’s Advocate: all assaults should have this service offered to them
  • Assault Photos – any male or female should have these photos offered to them and documented on the chart that it was offered, they are ordered under Treatments on EMSTAT and the nurses will take the photos
  • Security will walk anyone out to their car at night – don’t be afraid to use this resource
  • Procedures – this is your chance to learn to start IV’s, draw blood, and do small procedures, take advantage of the opportunity and don’t be afraid to ask for help
  • X-ray: will send all x-rays to team center A or B, if the patient has been back from ray for a while and the film does not appear on the digital imaging system, call 72771 and ask them to send it over. Also, if you want an old x-ray not on the system ask the HUC to call for the old jacket
  • Poison Center is located in the basement and the operator can connect you to them. All overdoses or other ingestions should be reported to them and they will give you information on what to expect or suggestions for treatment. Also they have a computer that can identify pills by the number on the pill.

  • CIC (Crisis center): phone number is 73161. All patients in need of psychiatric counseling or who have any suicidal ideation need to be transferred to crisis after their ED evaluation is complete. To send a patient to crisis you need to call crisis and tell them about the patient and fill out a crisis form. Once these are complete turn in the paper work and let the nurses know that the patient can be sent to CIC.
