Couple chooses Midwife Service again and again!
Ken and Jennifer Anderson welcomed their eighth child, Philomena, early in the morning on June 16, 2008 with the help of the Certified Nurse-Midwives at Hennepin County Medical Center. While the Midwives celebrate every family that chooses their service, the Andersons have built a special relationship with the service over the last ten years, choosing Hennepin for the birth of seven of their eight children.

“The service has been so family-friendly and accommodating to us,” Jennifer explained. Their second child was born at another hospital for insurance reasons, and they saw such a difference in the experience that they have been back to Hennepin for their next six children, seeing the Midwives in the OB clinic and delivering in the Birth Center.

While the commitment to a family birth experience hasn’t changed, the Andersons noted that some things had over the last ten years. Jennifer has noticed an increase in breastfeeding awareness and support over the years, and she joked about small changes, such as a difference in how meals were delivered and prepared and the color of the slipper socks provided (they were tan during this visit).

Hennepin’s Nurse-Midwife Service, the first Nurse-Midwife Service in Minnesota, has been welcoming new babies since 1971. The service was built on the philosophy that all clients have the right to safe, satisfying health care that meets their needs and beliefs, and all clients have the right to information so they may make decisions about their own health care. The Nurse-Midwives deliver more than 700 babies each year.

Hennepin County Medical Center was named by Fit Pregnancy Magazine as one of the 10 best places in the country to have a baby in 1996, 1997, and 2002.
