A draft of the Hennepin County Medical Center Health Services Plan – a detailed description of the medical center’s vital role in improving the health status of the community – is now available for public review and comment. The draft plan is available online at HCMC.org or the public can request a copy by calling 612-873-2271. Comments may be submitted online using the "Contact Us" link at HCMC.org or by mail to Mike Harristhal, HCMC P1, 701 Park Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55415. A public meeting will be held to review the plan and receive public comment on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Minneapolis Public Library, Doty Conference Room, 300 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis.
Hennepin Healthcare System, Inc. is a subsidiary corporation of Hennepin County and the Hennepin Healthcare System board of directors provides strategic leadership for Hennepin County Medical Center. The Hennepin County Board has final approval of the hospital’s mission, budget, major capital investments, and the Health Services Plan. The draft Health Services Plan identifies the following four issues as the most important for the medical center to address:
• Enhanced mental health role of the medical center • Reducing health disparities and improving the health of immigrant populations • Expanding access to primary care • Health care workforce training and diversity Details of these priorities, a description of Hennepin County Medical Center’s extensive current programs and offerings that fulfill community needs, and selected excerpts from the community health needs assessments that led to formulation of the 2008/2009 Health Services Plan are available in the plan itself.
Hennepin County Medical Center is a nationally recognized Level 1 Trauma Center with the largest emergency department in Minnesota. The comprehensive academic medical center and public teaching hospital includes a 446-bed acute care hospital and primary care and specialty clinics located in downtown Minneapolis, and four primary care clinics in Minneapolis and suburban Hennepin County.
For the twelfth year in a row, Hennepin County Medical Center is listed in the U.S. News & World Report rankings of the top U.S. Hospitals in its annual “America’s Best Hospitals” report.
