Hennepin County Medical Center earns the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services 2008 Medal of Honor for Organ Donation
Hennepin County Medical Center was one of 400 hospitals recently recognized for its efforts to promote the gift of life through organ donation. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services presents the Organ Donation Medal of Honor to hospitals that achieve at least a 75% organ donation rate in a consecutive twelve-month or greater period.

“We’re honored to be recognized for our small part in the organ donation process,” said Kathy Wilde, CNO, who accepted the award on behalf of HCMC. “Saying goodbye to a loved one is so difficult. During times of sadness, it’s often hard to comprehend the significance of a person’s choice to give life through organ donation, but making the choice to donate so that others may live is a selfless act that truly exemplifies a spirit of giving in life – and death. It’s a gift that anyone can give simply by making their wishes known.”

This is the third time Hennepin County Medical Center has been recognized with the Medal of Honor for Organ Donation.

Hennepin County Medical Center partners with LifeSource Organ and Tissue Donation Services to save lives through organ and tissue donation. LifeSource is a non-profit organization that serves as the “bridge” between donation and transplantation in hospitals throughout the Upper Midwest.

Hennepin County Medical Center is a Level 1 Trauma Center and public teaching hospital repeatedly recognized as one of America’s best hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The centerpiece of Hennepin County’s clinical health services, Hennepin County Medical Center offers a full spectrum of inpatient and outpatient services, including its Transplant Center, which recently celebrated 45 years of providing transplant services to patients and their families.
