Gail S. Summerville, RN, MSN, CNS
Gail is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Outpatient Program and sees patients in the TBI Clinic on Purple 5. She worked as a staff nurse in a variety of settings before deciding to return to school. She earned her MSN at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and obtained a post-graduate certification for CNS credentialing at Winona State University.
She spent many years working on trauma ICUs or EDs in both St. Paul and Duluth. She looks forward to seeing and learning about evidence-based care for the mild to moderate traumatic brain injury patient and providing the care to help them achieve the highest level of performance. She joined HCMC in September 2012 and is excited to work with such a dedicated inter-disciplinary team of professionals.
One of Gail's favorite professors at Eau Claire told her students at the beginning of the program that she makes it a point to learn something new each year. That particular year, it was ballroom dancing. She said that it makes her a more effective educator if she can always remember how it feels to be new in school, trying to figure out a new way to write papers, new curriculum, new everything. Plus, she loved the challenge of accomplishing something totally foreign to her and took pride in being a life-long learner. That advice resonates with Gail and pushes her to be challenged and learn something new, too. She appreciates the opportunity to do it at HCMC.
