State-of-the-art procedures

In the past, few options were available to ischemic (the majority of) stroke patients who sought medical care more than a few hours after symptom onset. Today, procedures are available to treat both hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes.

Some procedures offer hope to ischemic stroke patients as many as ten hours after symptom onset. Click here to view a press release about interventional neurology at Hennepin County Medical Center.

At the Hennepin Stroke Center, leading interventional neurologists perform stroke procedures and have pioneered several endovascular techniques. Procedures are performed in a state-of-the-art, catheterization lab. Procedures offered include:

  • Carotid angioplasty
  • Catheter embolectomy
  • Microsurgical aneurysm clipping
  • Coiling (Click here to see an animation)
  • Microsurgical excision of arteriovenous malformations (AVMs)
  • Focused radiation or embolization
