Treatment times among the fastest in the U.S.

Two million brain cells die each minute during a stroke. That’s why time is of the essence during acute stroke care. Patients who come to Hennepin Stroke Center experience some of the fastest stroke treatment times in the U.S.

  • An average “door-to-IV-TPA” time of 43 minutes. Our 2007 average time elapsed between patient arrival and TPA administration (“door-to-IV”) was 43 minutes.
    National best-practice door-to-IV  time is 60 minutes.
  • Delivery of TPA to 17% of ischemic stroke patients. This compares with an average
of 2% of patients nationally and 11-18% in top U.S. stroke programs.
